I saw the above print in the flesh at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in SF, in addition to the iconic HOPE poster used throughout Obama’s campaign. Being in the physical presence of Shep’s work changed my appreciation of his art for the better. Yes, he’s an art-world star, commercially successful, and has exploited those means to the fullest (Obey clothing, prints etc), but there’s a good reason for that. I did find it ironic, though, when Obey Giant pursued suing people for appropriating their appropriated designs…
