Video : Mr. Invisible L.A. Roundup

June has been insane, which accounts for the lack of updates / Melanaster news as of late.  We’ll be back soon in full-force, new & improved.  Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been going on with my other projects:

Mr. Invisible spent a week in L.A. earlier this month as part of our sponsorship with Native Instruments.  We shot a promotional video for their Maschine workstation and played a show at Low End Theory, alongside Daddy Kev, D-Styles and Gaslamp Killer. Stellar.

Uncle Mountain just wrapped up a week-long residency in Manteo (outer banks, NC) with the ECU Summer Dance Theater.  Incredibly fun, miserably hot, days off in the ocean, bodysurfing among jellyfish blooms.

Modo is about to embark on a short southeast tour that will take us to the Pensacola Museum of Art, among other places, fresh from a killer show at the Lexington Ave Brewery.

Combine all that craziness with DJ gigs here and there and you can see why the blog has gotten little love lately.  But look forward to new videos, new music, show announcements, and more Melanaster goodness.

Selected : JT Nimoy

Josh Nimoy, 2009.

Josh Nimoy, 2009.

Josh Nimoy is an artist, designer, technologist and digital thing-maker that creates innovative aesthetic tools with custom software. He develops the code for use in his own commissions (music videos, ads, installations, performances) and makes some of them freely available for use and modification online. His CV is encyclopedic and includes things like writing custom code for use in the visual effects for the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” video (i.e. the biggest hit in the world at the moment).

The coolest thing about his work, and the reason I’m sharing it on the blog, is that many of Josh’s hand-rolled software toys are available for free download. Some of them are very inspiring and can be easily used as idea-generators for almost anyone – designers, musicians, graphic artists, or just anybody who wants a simple widget to make really cool images.

I certainly haven’t made it through all of them, but here are a few of my favorites:

Selected : Eric Lindley

Eric Lindley.

Eric Lindley is a singer, writer and friend based out of Los Angeles.  He does many art-things, one of which is making beautifully hushed lo-fi songwriter material that recalls Smog, Elliott Smith and Red House Painters.

His first full-length, “Nightcat!”, came out on Sounds Super in 2007.  My favorite track from that album, “Shooting Range,” seems to follow me everywhere.
