Asheville-based DJ, producer and turntablist Marley Carroll makes his label debut via Anjunadeep Explorations. Fans may have heard the title track 'One More Year' on the now sold out label vinyl sampler, released mid-July. The evocative UK Garage-infused lead track is supported by 'Dearly Beloved' and 'Falling', two further dance cuts brimming with playful melodies and lush pads.

Marley's previous 2018 album, released via Loci records, sold out on vinyl, and he has since gone on to self-release 'Voices EP' in 2022, picking up support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, KCRW and KEXP. An accomplished DJ, Marley Carroll has also played esteemed festivals such as Coachella and Moogfest, as well as supporting acts such as Mura Masa, Emancipator and il:lo.

'One More Year EP' is out September 4 via Anjunadeep Explorations.

For as long as I've been making music, my solace and inspiration was drawn from two main sources: time spent in nature and time spent alone. As an introvert, my way of navigating life as a performer was to play a show and then retreat to the sanctuary of my studio for recovery and recharging. But during lockdown, I realized that I missed people, most of all. I missed being on tour, I missed the sparks of chance encounters, and more than anything I missed the feeling of being out at show, dancing with my friends and being immersed in sound. This album was born from the heartache of missing the rave.

Some of my favorite dance music of this era (DJ Seinfeld, Godford, Caribou) finds a way to combine the drum-heavy intensity of the dancefloor with the nostalgia of late-night afters, and I wanted this record to be among them. There's heartache and longing, there's joy and regret, but the essence of this record is an immense feeling of gratitude for the people that I've met through my life in music and not taking them for granted.

"Inspired by the mountains of Asheville, NC, Flight Patterns' soundscapes were constructed by the classically trained pianist and percussionist using environmental samples and analogue gear, layering the colourful sounds of the outdoors amongst an electronic base.

While the entire album is textured and hazy, the sets of double singles are also paired for their commonalities and similar styles. "Shiver" and "Fireflies," one of the strongest sets, encompass all that's on offer from Carroll — two extremely robust tracks cut from the same cloth with an ever-present 4/4 signature, the former sheathed in dreamy pulses of synth and clicks of field percussion, and the latter awash in continuous double hi-hat, a thick bass run, and mischievous synth flourishes, almost inciting the track name.

Carroll does wonders incorporating field recordings into Flight Patterns, changing the technical composition into a tangible, organic listening experience." - exclaim.ca
